Trip notes: New Brighton State Beach features picnic
areas, swimming, fishing and a nearby forest of Monterey pine.
The camping area is on a bluff overlooking northern Monterey
Bay. This is one in a series of state park camps set on the bluffs
overlooking Monterey Bay. They are among the most popular and
in-demand state campgrounds in California. Reservations are a
necessity. The summer months are often foggy and cool, especially
in the morning. Beachcombing and surf fishing for perch provide
recreation options along with skiff rentals at the nearby Capitola
Wharf. The San Lorenzo River enters the ocean nearby.
