Manresa State Beach

Location: County: Santa Cruz. Nearest City: Watsonville.

Campsites, facilities: There are 64 walk-in tent sites. Piped water, picnic tables, rest rooms, coin-operated showers, food lockers, and fire rings are provided. Some facilities are wheelchair accessible. Leashed pets are permitted.

Reservations, fees: Reservations are recommended from mid-March through October; reserve by phoning 1-800-444-PARK/7275 ($7.50 reservation fee); $17-$18 per night.

Operating hours, seasons: Call beach for information, hours vary. Open 4/1-11/30 yearly.

Directions: From Santa Cruz, drive 12 miles southeast on Highway 1 to the San Andreas Road exit. Drive five miles south on San Andreas Road to Sand Dollar Drive and follow the signs to the park entrance. The parking area is about 1,000 yards from the camping area.

Weather, clothing: The weather can be changeable; layered clothing is recommended.

Trip notes: Manresa State Beach features a beautiful expanse of sea and sand, with surf fishing, clamming, and recreation. This is a beautiful and extremely popular state park, with the campground set on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Many sites have ocean views; others are set back in a secluded grove of pine and cypress trees. There is beach access for fishing, swimming, or beachcombing. Santa Cruz and Monterey are each a short drive away and offer endless recreation possibilities.
