is undergoing roof re-construction as well as complete restoration and

Directions: The park is located in downtown Sacramento at 8th
and N Streets.
Weather, clothing: Summer and spring are warm; fall and winter
can be cool. Layered clothing is advised.
Trip notes: Built by a businessman in Sacramento in 1857, the
home was purchased four years later by Leland Stanford, California's eighth
governor and one of the founders of the Central Pacific Railroad. He expanded
and remodeled the home. The Stanford family lived here until 1874 when
they moved to San Francisco, After moving, they used the house when business,
politics or social engagements brought them back to Sacramento. The mansion
is located just a few blocks from the State Capitol. The three-story mansion
is currently undergoing restoration, but tours are available.
