Trip notes: Originally built by a hardware store owner in 1878, the mansion became California's Executive Mansion in 1903. The mansion has 15 rooms and five bathrooms. It is an example of Victorian-Gothic architecture. The interior design reflects a mixture of tastes, ranging from the original Victorian builder through all the various governors and first ladies who lived there. It was home to thirteen of the state's governors until 1967 when then Governor Ronald Reagan became the last governor to live there. The mansion is open by tour only.
