Camp Hi-Sierra

Location: County: Tuolumne. Nearest City: Strawberry.

Campsites, facilities: There is 100 acres total of river-front, meadow, and forest land. There are 15 campsites for summer camp and year-round use (when accessible). Fire rings, picnic tables, piped water, and flush toilets are available. Showers are available during summer operation. An archery range, rifle range, Scoutcraft area, mountain bike program, Foxfire - High Adventure area, waterfront - swimming and boating - area, dining hall, Trading Post, campfire circle, etc. are available as well for summer camp operation. Some of these facilities might be available for use during the year-round operation. Pets are discouraged.

Reservations, fees: Reservations are required and made through the Santa Clara County Council, Boy Scouts of America. Fees vary depending on the program - year-round use or summer camp program. Call Council Service Center for information.

Directions: From Sonora, drive east on Highway 108, seven miles beyond Long Barn. Turn is shortly after Peter Pan Realty billboard on the right side of the highway.

Weather, clothing: Summer can be very warm; spring and fall can be cool with snow in early spring and late fall; and winter will have snow in camp and on the roads. The weather can be changeable; layered clothing is advised.

Trip notes: Camp Hi-Sierra is situated on the South Fork of the Tuolumne River. The land was once part of the Sonora Lumber Company during the early 1900s and was purchased by the council during the 1940s. One building (the Clavey building) still remains from the lumber days and is located in the Foxfire area. Boating is also available during summer camp at Pinecrest Lake.

During summer camp, a full range of Scouting programs and activities are offered. The annual leaders' manual is published for all interested Boy Scout troops which wish to attend camp and provides all information needed for your unit to attend camp.
