Campsites, facilities: There are campsites at Lake Clemetine
Boat-Incamp - reservations are required. All other facilities (day use
and camping) are operated on a first-come, first-served basis. Many popular
areas fill during the summer week-ends.
Reservations, fees: Reserve by phoning 1-800-444-PARK/7275 ($7.50
reservation Fee); Camping fees vary from $7 off-season to $11 premium sites
in the summer. Reservations for camping in the busy season can be made
in advance. There are no day use fees in the park.

Operating hours, seasons: The park office is regularly staffed
from 9-4 on M,T,Th,F. Rangers may be available during other hours. See
the Camping & Lake Clementine selections from the main menu for information
on seasonal closure of park facilities. Generally, park hours are from
6am to 10pm in the summer, and 7am to 7pm in the off-season.
Directions: The park (which is 20 miles long on two forks of
the American River) is situated south of Interstate 80, stretching from
Auburn to Colfax. The main access is from Auburn, either on Highway 49
or the Auburn-Foresthill Road.
Weather, clothing: Typical California warm/hot summers and cool
wet winters. Fall and spring weather can be variable. The weather can be
changeable; layered clothing is recommended.
Trip notes: Auburn State Recreation Area (Auburn SRA) covers
over 35,000 acres along 40-miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American
river. Once teeming with thousands of gold miners, the area is now a natural
area offering a wide variety of recreation opportunities to over 500,000
visitors a year.
Major recreational uses include hiking, swimming, boating, fishing,
camping, mountain biking, gold panning and off-highway motorcycle riding.
Whitewater recreation is also very popular on both forks of the river,
with cass II, III and IV rund. Over 30 -rivate outfitters are licensed
to offer whitewater trips in Auburn SRA.
Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is located on Highway 49
about 15 miles south of the park headquarters. Many other "Gold Country"
attractions are within a short distance of the park, including historic
Old Town Auburn. The Placer County Visitor Information Center provides
information on these attractions at 1-530-887-2111. The Tahoe and El Dorado
National Forests border on the park. See the Phone section of the main
