Traveling

Traveling is a good way to learn about how other's do things. While in Hawaii, Kale and I had a chance to visit with a scout, Cheyne Taum, who had been in cub scouts here, before moving back to Hawaii. And, yes, if you visit a troop out of state and come back with a shirt, you to can wear that shirt to a meeting in place of your class A.

I learned a few things:

  1. You don't have to have a large troop to have a great troop.
Cheyne's troop has 8 scouts and 1 adult leader, but the outings and activities they described were, if anything more challenging and interesting.
  2. Location, Location, Location,
Their troop meets at the Elk's Lodge in Waikiki, in a room overlooking the ocean and their summer camp is in an extinct volcano!
  3. Scouts are scouts whether in Hawaii or California-nuff said

As you plan your travels with the troop, or with your family always look for opportunities to seek out interactions with other scouts and their troops. Write or call ahead about meeting times and locations and ask to attend events.

Thank you and good night scouts
