Boy Scout Troop 325 Scoutmaster Minute

Andy Duprey, Scoutmaster
Confucius was a Chinese thinker and social philosopher, whose teachings have deeply influenced modern thought and life. He is believed to have lived from 551- 479 BCE.
He said "I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand".
He must have been working with boy scouts!
Have you ever thought how you are taught something in boy scouts is very different how you are taught in school? After all, how many igloos have you built at school?
When I was growing up, the teachers lectured and we memorized!
But Boy Scouts uses the learn-do-teach method
You "learn", or are lectured at-but we know not much of what you hear sticks in your head
To help it stick, we use the glue of "doing". By actually putting your hands in and making a mess of it till you get it right your body will remember it.
And for real teaching to sink in and become permanent, you have to "teach" someone else to do it.
Thank you to all of tonight's "teachers" and good night scouts
