Boy Scout Troop 325 Scoutmaster Minute

The Eagle Scout Trail

January 27, 2009
Andy Duprey, Scoutmaster

Boy Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and steps in overcoming them through the advancement method. The Boy Scout plans his advancement and progresses at his own pace as he meets each challenge. The Boy Scout is rewarded for each achievement, which helps him gain self-confidence. The steps in the advancement system help a Boy Scout grow in self-reliance and in the ability to help others.

It is not my, nor your parents, nor the other Asst Scoutmasters jobs to have you "make-rank"

It is your individual choice to make eagle by 16 or be first class at 18.

Our "job", as it were, is to help you when you ask, suggest what you might do, encourage you when you look undecided and serve as your guide and mentors.

We are exceptionally proud of each boy that achieves the rank of eagle, because we know that his achievement reflects HIS hard work, and not ours.

Each of you has placed yourself on the trail to eagle. How far along that trail you choose to go is up to you, but know that each adult in the troop will help you in any legitimate way possible.

The greatest moments of my adult life, besides the achievements of my own children, is when one of you works hard, goes beyond what you think you can do, and "makes rank"

Thank you and good night scouts.
