New Year's Resolutions
January 2, 2007
Larry Polyak, Scoutmaster
It's the start of a new year. The time for new year's resolutions. Resolutions are good. They are like goals, small goals that you set for yourself. Scouting is full of requirements, and setting goals is a good way to achieve them. The problem is, most people make resolutions but then don't stick to them. I'll give you a couple of tips. If you really want to stick to your resolutions, try to find a buddy with the same goals, and work on them together. For example if you want to work on your next rank requirement or if you just want to exercise more, try to find a buddy to do it with you. If you want to get better grades, find someone to study with. This really helps. One person tends to encourage the other, especially if one of you starts to slack off.
Another tip is to tell people about your goals. Sometimes, people set goals for themselves, but then keep them to themselves, afraid to tell anyone in case they fail. Tell your parents or your friends what some of your goals are. You'll be more inclined to stick with it if you know that other people expect you to be succesful. And maybe they can help be supportive along the way.
I hope that you are all successful with your goals and resolutions for 2007.
Thank you for listening.
