The Boy Scout Handbook

Ok I need a show of hands... How many of you who are not First Class yet have your scout handbook with you? Ok good, looks like most of you. You can put your hands down. Now how many of you who are First Class or above have your handbook with you? Hmm.. just what I thought... none. It seems that after guys pass First Class they don't bring their handbooks any more. And that's ok, becasue you should have everything memorized right? Ummmm I don't think so.
Don't give up your handbook when you reach First Class. It is FILLED with all sorts of useful information. Knots, lashings, first aid, it's all covered right here. That scout in North Carolina who got lost in the woods a while back could have benefited by remembering a few things from the scout handbook. The section on safe hiking has some tips on what to do if you are lost. The buddy system - a good rule to follow at any age. Do you remember what to do if you or your buddy are bitten by a snake?
Do you want to make dinner in a Dutch Oven? Want to know how a compass works? Need a reminder on what to bring for a backpacking trip? Proper nutrition? Rest and Sleep? It's all right here in your handbook. Don't give it up when you become Frist Class.
Thanks for listening.
