Father's Day
June 14, 2005
Larry Polyak, Scoutmaster
Sunday is Father's Day. In our family we have a tradition. On Mother's Day, Karen gets to do whatever she wants and Erik and I have to go along and enjoy it, even if it was not something we would choose to do. On Father's Day, I get to choose what we are going to do. This Sunday we are going to see a show about Nikola Tesla, the inventer of alternating current and his employer, Thomas Edison. I can hardly wait.
Anyway.. after my "Top Ten Things Heard from Mothers" last month, I just couldn't resist coming up with the top ten list of things heard from fathers. Here they are:
10) "What's for dinner?"
9) "Stop changing channels and give me the remote."
8) "What did I just get finished telling you?"
7) "Be quiet. I'm trying to think."
6) "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you."
5) "Do you think money grows on trees?"
4) "We are NOT lost, I do NOT need to ask for directions."
3) “How many times do I have to tell you?”
2) “Just wait until you have kids of your own.”
1) "I don't know. Ask your mother."
It's kind of funny, I remember things my father used to say that I thought were really silly, or had no meaning, but the older I get, the more I find myself quoting him and realizing he was right. With any luck, you'll have the same experience.
Thank you for listening.
