Boy Scout Troop 325
Scoutmaster Minute
Ben Levy, Eagle Candidate
August 30, 2004

By George Denise, Scoutmaster

When a scout in our troop completes his requirements for Eagle, he must go before a Board of Review. As his scoutmaster, I am asked to write a letter of recommendation on his behalf. When I do, I like to read it as a Scoutmaster Minute at one of the next meetings. The following is my letter of recommendation for Ben Levy.

Letter of Reference for Ben Levy, Eagle Candidate, July 28, 2004

It gives me great pleasure to write this letter on behalf of Ben Levy.

Ben joined Troop 325 in 1997. Over the years, Ben has held the positions of Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Scribe, OA Representative, Instructor, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Senior Patrol Leader. He is currently a Life Scout with 33 merit badges. He has been active in the Order of the Arrow within the Hattape Chapter and he was a member of Miwok Lodge's Dance Committee for several years and president for one year. Ben has attended troop JLT several times, Bristlecone JLT, plus he served on Bristlecone staff one year, he has attended summer camp almost every summer since he joined the troop, he attended International Rendezvous, the 2001 National Jamboree, and most recently, Philmont BSA High Adventure Base.

Ben plays the cello and played in his high school orchestra. He co-founded Prospect High School's Computer Game Club. He participated in Mock Trial. And he is a fanatic at Magic Cards and Animae (a sign of being Eagle-bound in our troop, so it's OK).

Ben has strong opinions and enjoys sharing them and debating them. He speaks his mind. At the same time, I have seen Ben's personality soften over the past couple of years as he had matured and become more aware of the effect of his personality on others. He is learning the nuances of affecting other people's behavior.

Next year, Ben will be attending University of California at Santa Cruz, where he plans to major in political science or history. Ben told me he would like to be an attorney some day. I believe Ben has both the intellect and the temperament to succeed in this endeavor.

It gives me great pleasure to recommend Ben Levy for Scouting's highest achievement, Eagle Scout.

Yours in Scouting,

George Denise, Scoutmaster
